The Football facility at Charles Hill, if completed, will provide changing rooms and facilities for thousands of local children and young people over the coming years. Facilities like this are vital - this is what councils exist for - to use our collectively pooled resourses to do good things.
The Labour Town council has put in £330000, and £250000 is coming from the football foundation.
The Board of Charles Hill recently wrote to councillors, asking for support in underwriting the £160000 shortfall for the project so that they could get a start date and begin on this vitally.
HOWEVER - I am led to understand that the ruling Conservatives will not be taking this decision to the next meeting of the council to decide on. I hope that they have a change of heart - we know that the money has been identified by officers to underwrite the shortfall, and the leadership would get our full support for that.
Further delay is unthinkable - beyond doubt it would risk increasing the build costs significantly, and could jeapordise the whole project, including the £250000 from the Football foundation.
My response to the board is below.
